Northern Pulp’s Impact Assessment not required for mill transformation, says minister

June 23, 2022  By P&PC Staff

Northern Pulp recently shared that the Hon. Steven Guilbeault, Canada’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change determined that the mill’s proposed transformation does not warrant designation under the federal Impact Assessment Act. The mill noted that this means it will not be required to complete a federal Impact Assessment.

The mill added in a statement that its team is focused on completing the thorough provincial Class II Environmental Assessment. Federal departments such as Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Health Canada, Transport Canada, and Environment and Climate Change Canada participate as federal experts in the provincial environmental assessment.

Northern Pulp is looking forward to working with them and Nova Scotia government departments throughout the EA process.
